Cinematography assignment part 2

As posted in previous entry, Cinematography assignment has arrived and we need to interpret 2 scenes from the "Duplex" a band new way, in our own style, perhaps a different time and place from the original. Our group has decided the style to be ancient China, perhaps in the era of Tang, Qing dynasty.

The original script is based on Brooklyn, America. However, we've decided to interpret in a totally different era. Below are the background of the characters:

Alex is the protagonist, a scholar, who's also a court official who just got promoted in rank. He's a down-to-earth and honest guy, who believes in the law. Basically, an upright official. Has a good friend (whom he believed to be) named Coop.
His wife, Nancy is demure and gentle lady, who owns a restaurant in town. She is supportive of her husband, and is also a down-to-earth person.

Coop is Alex's friend, who's also another fellow court official, but his rank is lower than that of Alex. He's a dishonest person and willing to do anything to get promotion. Basically, he's the antagonist and a corrupted official. As Alex is of higher rank than him, he is trying to suck up to Alex to get into good position.
Celine is Coop's wife. She's a typical housewife of a court official, and does embroidery during her free time. However, she has scheming plans for her husband to get a promotion.

Haha... sounds like a typical court movie character... Hmm... however, what differs is that we are only shooting one scene, because this is cinematography class, not film production class. It's a test of camera angles, composition, camera movements, lights etc. and not the entire storyline.

Hmmm... the thing is that we are given the script in English, which means dialogue given is in English. Marijre said we could change accordingly but the meaning and tension of the original dialogue must still be the same, and also we are to retain the original names.....

Hmmm.... but thinking of filming, even only one scene, makes my mind and heart go excited coz it's 古装!!A first realization of what our whole year 2 film class intended to film during the holidays, which is 武侠!Haha!!

I guess that time when we wanted to do 武侠 coz we were inspired by the movies we watched during our last sem Asian Film History class... LOLX!

Anyway, it is a low budget, or to speak exactly, trying not to spend a single $$, so we'll be making our own sets, and also, costumes. Kexin said we can just use a large piece of cloth and wrap around, with some sewing at the side. Hehe... I can't wait for it to happen...

So now, we need to settle settings, casts, especially casts as we'll be shooting the first scene on 19th March, Wednesday, the slot given to our group. So, those who are reading my blog, anyone interested? We need 2 actors, 2 actresses!!
