2009 movies

2009 is a year of anime/manga-turned-live action, 3D animation movies.

First on the list that is to be released soon is "Dragonball: Evolution". "Dragonball" originated from manga, and then its anime was released. It's roots are from Japan but now, the live-action movie is played by non-Japanese, and non-Asians. After watching the teaser and trailer, I find that the movie lost its original essence. It's just not "Dragonball" anymore.

Second movie that I know its going to be releases is "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li". The iconography in both "Dragonball" and "Street Fighter" is not there anymore. In the past when we watch the anime or manga, we knew the titles as soon as we saw the characters, their style and iconography. Neither movies has this element.

Third on the list is "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". Yes, the yellow suit of Wolverine is not there anymore, ever since the start of the first "X-Men" movie but there are still certain elements we are able to recognize it's Wolverine - the hairstyle, the 'claw-like' weapon, his moves etc. "X-Men" originated from Marvel, American comics, so at least Caucasians playing the role of "X-Men" characters is definitely acceptable.

Next is "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen". We've watched "Transformers" cartoon ever since we were kids. When the first "Transformers" movie came up, everyone was excited to watch how the transformation of the robots can be done in live action. It was a success, at least the CGI effects but the story plot was weak, seriously weak. Most who went to watch used to be fans of "Transformer" and for the effects, it was worthwhile. Other than that? I don't think so. As for the sequel, I'll have to wait for the trailer to be released.

Next would be a movie that my brother informed me of - "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra". I've yet to see how it looks like as the trailer is not out and there isn't much news on it, yet. However, the posters of the movie looks not bad, but the characters give me a feel that it's like "X-Men". I really don't know so I shall not make any judgments about it.

Well-known Japanese manga and anime "Astro Boy" is soon to be released in the later half of the year. I'm not sure this is a 3d animation or live action movies but the casts in the movie are rather dubious. Talk about Nicholas Cage and Scarlett Johnson. How's that for some of the names of the casts? I've got a bad feeling about this.

Other interesting movies, adapted from cartoon, anime, game or manga soon to be announced in 2009 include, "Metal Gear Solid", "Thundercats", "X-Men Origins: Magneto". 2009 is a year with look-out movies to watch.
